LCD TV REPAIR

The new LCD TV's are a different breed of TV.  Therefore, repair procedures are different than repairs of the older CRT type TV's.  Repairs to CRT type of TV's are done at board level. Meaning, individual faulty components on the boards are replaced to make the TV serviceable.

Board level repair is very limited on the boards used in LCD's. The boards are multi layered, using large surface mounted processors and IC's which often make the boards un-repairable or not feasible to repair. Add to that, the lack of
manufacturers service literature often means that the entire board would require replacement.

That said, your local TV repair shop can do some board level repair, but can only go so far before a board replacement is required. If your TV can be repaired at board level, you can expect to pay $150- $200 for the repair.

If board replacement is required to fix your TV, repair costs get real expensive real quick as these boards run $100 to over $400 and you may have more than one board that is bad.  Add labor to that and your TV may not be cost effective to repair.

Just  to add fuel to the fire.

Many new LCD's supplied today are cheaply made, with little quality control, and have a high failure rate. Many items have a user life of less than three years. It may make more sense to purchase a replacement unit that may cost less and have a better warranty.

More fuel for the fire:

Manufacturers of many newer items being sold today provide little or no support.  First problem, you may not be able to find the manufacturer of the item that you just bought. Look high and low and you just find no information. You can't buy a replacement part from a company you can't find.

Second if you do find the manufacturer, they may not sell  parts or provide technical information needed for the repair. No support. Many have a replacement and a "no repair" policy. Read the fine print on replacement and your blood pressure will go up and the vein on your forehead will start to throb!!

If you do find a manufacture that provides parts and technical information, often what they want for parts is unreasonable. Example, you just paid $800.00 for a new LCD panel TV. Little Johnny just threw a remote and cracked the screen. Replacement cost for the LCD panel is $1600.00 and guess what.... it's not available.
